  • NWCIS Publishes cancer stats by Local Authority area

    The North West Cancer Intelligence Service, NWCIS, has published a series of factsheets that show incidence, prevalence, mortality and cause of death analyses by the Local Authorities in the North West of England. This is the first time NWCIS has published cancer statistics by Local Authority in recognition of the increasing role of LAs in public health. The factsheets can be viewed here. NWCIS is keen to receive feedback on the usefulness of these factsheets through an online survey accessible via the same link.

  • New Peer Review measures out for consultation

    As part of the National Cancer Peer Review Programme new measures for specialist palliative care services, community skin cancer services and cancers of unknown primary have been published in draft form. The consultation period for the specialist palliative care measures closes on 27th February, 2012; the consultation periods for both the community skin cancer measures and the unknown primary measures close on 14th March, 2012.   • National Bowel Screening Campaign

    The aim of this national campaign is to raise public awareness of the symptoms of bowel cancer and to encourage those with persistent symptoms to present promptly. Although the great majority of people may not have bowel cancer, some may. By catching the cancer earlier it should be more treatable.   The campaign runs between 30 January and the end of March 2012. Advertisements are featuring on TV and the radio and in other national media.
